Welcome Letter from PTO President

Welcome back to another exciting year at Franklin!

I hope that you and your families enjoyed a nice and relaxing summer break.  Over the course of the summer the PTO Executive Board, Mrs. Mirrione and the teachers at Franklin have been busy planning lots of events for the 2017/2018 school year.  You’ll learn more about these events at Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30pm.

Here’s a snapshot of what the PTO has planned with more to come as the school year kicks off!

  • 2nd Annual Welcome Back BBQ on September 22nd from 5-7pm.  This event was so well received last year we can’t wait host it again.  Join us for a fun night on the Franklin Field.  Pre-purchase your tickets now – 9/15 at www.myschoolanywhere.com to take advantage of the family discount.
  • FIVE Assemblies for our children.  In October they will learn about weather and use a TV green screen with local news celebrity John Marshall.  January has two assemblies – first the Storey Pirates will entertain the kids with a fun skit and then the Franklin Institute will do a presentation on Flight.  In April an inflatable planetarium will teach the children about “What’s Out There”.  Finally in June be prepared to be blown away by the BMX Air Ramp Bike Show.
  • Artist in Residence in October our kids will spend two weeks with artist Joshua Weiner to create a beautiful lasting mosaic in our front vestibule
  • TWO Author Visits.  Our kids will be treated to the famous author of the My Weird School series Dan Gutman and author Phil Bildner.
  • The 4th & 5th grade Musical will be made into an annual tradition instead of every other year.  This puts our children at a huge advantage when they get to the middle school because they’ll have two years of experience to bring with them.
  • After School Enrichment opportunities begin in September with golf and tennis programs.  Later in the year will see the return of the Chess Club and winter enrichment classes.  There will also be spring golf and tennis programs.
  • Paper Directory will be returning again this year!
  • Favorite Annual Activities such as the Book Fair, Holiday Shop, Movie Night and the Franklin Fair are all set to return.
  • Exciting Playground Enhancement project.
  • All of these activities are made possible by your PTO Membership Dues and our fundraising events.  Please make sure to join the PTO by visiting our website http://franklinparents.com and clicking on the yellow “Pay PTO Dues” box.

You can passively donate to Franklin everytime you shop on Amazon by visiting smile.amazon.com and set your charity as Franklin Elementary School PTO.

I’m so excited about the year ahead and look forward to working with the amazing PTO Executive Board this year: Melissa Madden, VP; Rachel Callahan, VP of Communications; Renata Estupinan, Asst VP Comm; Paula Rush, Treasurer; Caroline Heyer, Asst Treasurer; and Isabel Ribeiro, Volunteer Coordinator.  Of course we couldn’t run any of these programs without our amazing parent volunteers!  Thank you all for helping make Franklin such a special place for our children.

On your first day back to school make sure to check out the newly installed school garden on the Warwick side of the building and the new “Franklin” benches on the field side of the school.  Thanks to Mrs. Mirrione, the BOE, and the PTO there have been so many enhancements to our school – it’s never looked so good!

Looking forward to seeing all of you on the 1st day of school!

    Christie Engel

    PTO President
