Just like summer, the first few weeks of school have flown by!  I want to take a moment to thank Jessica Shin, Stacie Collins and Stephanie Beardsley for providing relief from the anxiety of the first day of school and the unseasonable heat by supplying refreshing ice pops for all the kids and their siblings!  Thank you ladies!  Thank you, too, to Stephanie Meisiles and Lisa Betz for welcoming all the new families to Franklin at this year’s New Family Playdate.  There were also many hands making this year’s back-to-school night a relaxing and informative evening.  Thank you Jen Hoffman, Betsy Flaim, Lisa Betz, Jen Sexton, Rachel Callahan, and Kim Leonard.  I apologize if I have inadvertently overlooked anyone! As you can see, it takes volunteers to create and execute the many great events we have at Franklin.  Please consider volunteering!  Contact Betsy Flaim (elizabethflaim@yahoo.com) if you have an interest in assisting with Kids Stuff Coupon books (light involvement) or the Franklin Fair or would be interested in co-chairing the Summit Education Fund Casino Night at the Elk’s Club (March).   The Board of Education recognized newly-tenured staff at the Board meeting on Thursday, September 17. Board President Katherine Kalin addressed the staff and said, “the status of tenure is not casually dispensed in the Summit Public Schools. Only after a careful process and evaluation by administrators, department supervisors, and principals is a staff member recommended for tenure. Those we are honoring tonight have successfully come through that process by demonstrating the skill, commitment, and professionalism that makes our staff second to none.” Twenty-two staff members received tenure this year. Congratulations Franklin teachers:  Dr. Chestnut, Mrs. Welence, Mrs. Watson, & Ms. Bass!
