Lost & Found – Please remind your kids to have a look through the Lost & Found racks before the end of the school year. Also, we will put the Lost & Found racks/bins outside the school entrance on Wednesday, June 3rd (Field Day) at the end of the day. Please take a moment time to look through the racks to identify any lost items. We plan to donate clothes left in Lost & Found at the end of the school year to the Junior League of Summit Thrift Shop on Deforest Avenue. Any questions, please contact Line Barlow (c:862.812.8806). Thanks.

Lunch and Learn Survey for Grown Ups I have an idea to hold lunch and learn sessions for our Franklin learners next school year. This would mean that during our recess/lunch hour the learners would come to FLIC (aka library) to learn about something. I need your expertise. Do you have a talent or interest that you are willing to share with children? It could be work related (how does technology change us, what is the stock market) or it could be a passion that you have that you think children would enjoy hearing about (birdwatching, painting, electronics). Please consider joining in on the fun and learning by taking the first step and completing this form. Thanks in advance for your interest. At the bake sale on Friday May 15,  Franklin School raised an amazing $2,865, which we donated to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research. http://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org/ 100% of the proceeds we earned will go to provide annual research grants to five leading pediatric cancer centers, including St. Jude’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Texas Children’s Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. A big thanks to the Student Council, Ms. Marino and Ms. Douglas for helping to run the bake sale; all of the kids and parents who baked treats to sell and all of the kids who helped to eat the treats!  You all contributed to our success.

CHANGE OF DATE: GENERAL PTO MEETING IS NOW THURSDAY, MAY 28th Franklin Cafeteria, 8:15am Dear Parents, Due to the recent resignation of Dr.Gil and the need to go through the a process of selecting a new Principal, we have decided to change the date of the General PTO Meeting to Thursday. We are doing this as the Interim Director of Human Resources and the Superintendent would like to come and talk with the parents about our concerns. Unfortunately they can not make the Wednesday meeting and as we don’t wish to have you come to the school twice, we feel that the move to Thursday is the best option. We will still have time to vote in the new board and to celebrate our volunteers. We know that some of the first grade parents will not be able to attend (including two of the board members) as there is a trip to Fosterfields Farm on Thursday. We will take very good minutes and try to record the event if we can. We hope that a lot of you will be able to make this meeting. It is an excellent opportunity to establish open lines of communication with the District and […]

Dear Franklin Friends, Throughout many different times in life you decide to push yourself a little further. Sometimes it’s mentally and sometimes it’s physically. We have decided this year we would take on a physical challenge. On Sept. 27th we will be walking the Boston Marathon Route (26.2 miles) with thousands of other people. We are walking to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund which supports the Dana Farber cancer institute’s mission, which is to conquer all forms of cancer in both children and adults through patient care and research. We hope you’ll support us by making a donation. You can make a donation by clicking on our links. Ms. Chamber’s Link Ms. Stochaj’s Link We thank you in advance for your support! We look forward to an exciting day! Sincerely, Ms. Amy Chambers Ms. Loreli Stochaj

Our very own–outstanding–Librarian, Loreli Stochaj, has been nominated for a BAMMY Award. She needs Franklin Parents and Staff to vote and help her win! “The Bammy Awards is a cross-discipline honor that identifies and acknowledges the extraordinary work being done across  the entire education field every day– from teachers, principals and superintendents, to school nurses, support staff, advocates, researchers, school custodians, early childhood specialists, education journalists, parents and students.  The Bammy Awards were created to help reverse the negative national narrative that dominates the education field. The Bammy Awards acknowledge that teachers can’t do it alone and don’t do it alone. The Awards aim to recognize the collaborative nature of education, to encourage respect in and across the various domains, to raise the profile and voices of the many undervalued and unrecognized people who are making a difference in the field and to elevate educators, education and the value of life-long learning in the public eye.” The honorees will be announced on June 30th. Those selected by the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences to receive Bammy Awards will be honored at a red carpet event in September in Washington, D.C. To vote, please click this link:  Bammy Award Voting then click ‘VOTE’, ‘School Librarian’, ‘Loreli Stochaj’. You must Register to vote. Once registered, sign in and […]

On Friday, May 15, immediately after school, the Student Council is helping to run our 2nd annual bake sale in front of the school to raise money for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research (see https://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org/).  Cookies for Kids’ Cancer provides annual research grants to five leading pediatric cancer centers and 100% of the proceeds we earn will go directly to support this cause.  At the bake sale last year, due to your generosity, we raised $2,914 for this very worthy cause. Please help us to top that amount this year. Every class is responsible for baking at least 24-30 individual baked goods to be sold. Please click here to sign up on Sign Up Genius to bake either brownies, cookies, cupcakes, chocolate covered pretzels or rice krispie treats:  Cookies for Kids’ Cancer SignUp Genius.  If anyone wants to bake something nicer to sell, that is welcome too.  Please do not put any nuts in your baked goods and please individually wrap them, either in a plastic Ziploc bag or Saran wrap.  Please drop off your baked goods in the Main Office at Franklin between 11 am- 2 pm on May 15.  If you cannot stop by in that timeframe, then you can send your baked goods in with your child in […]
