It is important to encourage healthy eating at home, but your school lunch also supports healthy eating. The menu is infused with iron rich foods, such as fresh grilled chicken breasts available daily, beans and dark green leafy vegetables on The Farm Stand, and a variety of salads featuring romaine lettuce. This month’s Fruit and Vegetable of the Month are oranges and celery. Oranges are juicy and sweet and renowned for their concentration of vitamin C. Vitamin C, which is also vital for the proper function of a healthy immune system, is good for preventing colds and may be helpful in preventing recurrent ear infections. Since mid-November, over 90 4th and 5th graders had been diligently preparing to present “SHReK, The Musical, Jr.”.   The children rehearsed three times per week under the direction of Holly Raye. The children’s hard work payed off this past weekend as they performed to sold out crowds.  Franklin’s PTO hired Ms. Raye, a Broadway veteran, after a rigorous interview process this past Fall. Holly and her team, along with parent volunteers and a slew of super enthusiastic children  filled the gym with Ogre’s, Guards, Fiona’s, woodland creatures, fairytale creatures and whole bunch of fun!  It was a Big, Bright, Beautiful Shrek World! Take a look at more pictures under the Musical Tab on our Home page…
