Art in the Classroom Procedures

Overview:

-There are six paintings that rotate through each grade throughout the year.

-Binders for each artist are located in the PTO supply room. Each binder includes art in the classroom procedures, the lesson plan, examples of the artist’s work, books about the artist and the “Message to Parents” form.

-Docents’ presentations should be mindful of the age of their audience. Teachers from the lower grades request that the presentations be kept simple, for example hitting 5 or 6 main points.

-Art supplies are also located in the PTO supply room.  Please be mindful that these supplies are shared by all docents and should be signed out, used and returned to the AIC section of the basement as soon as possible.

-The docent schedule for each month will be posted and left near the folders. If you want to partner with another parent please feel free to do so.

The Process:

-Consult with your teacher to arrange a mutually convenient date and time within your allotted month. Inquire with the teacher whether they would like the artist poster displayed for the entire month in the classroom or just for the AIC lesson. It is your responsibility to leave and return the appropriate poster to/from the PTO supply room.  Posters are arranged by grade.

-Please use the sign-out sheets located with the folders to check out your artist folder. Kindly return the folder promptly after your lesson.

-Each presentation/activity should last 45 minutes. As a general guideline, the presentation should last 5-7 minutes, with 30-35 minutes for hands-on activity and 5 minutes for cleanup.

-The lesson plan gives the basic background history of the artist and the featured piece of artwork.  The accompanying books are meant to facilitate your research and can also be used during your presentation.

-If you should require photocopies the school copy facility is available to you.

-You will find a folder containing a “Message to Parents” form. Please date it, make copies for all the students in the class and leave with the classroom teacher.
