Please Read Me, Pretty Please!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I write to you not just as the President of the PTO but also as a concerned parent. Many people have raised concerns with me about the increasing number of cars that are not following the Drop-Off Lane Rules. We as a community worked hard to get these guidelines into place and have done a tremendous job transitioning to the new rules. Lets please continue to follow them and to not let old bad habits return. Please take a moment to remind yourself of the basic rules and to share them and even print them out for anyone else in your household responsible for dropping of your children.

Remember: these rules exist to ensure the safety of our children, to ensure the safety of us as drivers, and to ensure a more efficient and calm drop-off.

  1. Children MUST remain in cars until the Drop Off Lane begins which is denoted by the blue sign at the telephone poll by the driveway.  Please do not drop children earlier and then peel off into oncoming traffic which is headed towards the crosswalk!
  2. Drivers MUST pull all the way forward – either to the Next Blue Sign a telephone poll or to the car stopped in front of them. Please get as close as possible to the car in front of you; please do not leave an entire car length’s of space.
  3. Drivers MAY NOT stop in front of their child’s entrance, i.e. do not stop where 4th/5th graders line up and enter and do not stop in front of main door for 1st and 2nd graders. Again, drive forward ALL THE WAY, as far as you possibly can go, regardless of where your child enters the school. Somedays it will work in your child’s favor, others it will not.
  4. Children MUST kiss-n-go once they can get out…by themselves! Parents MUST remain in cars at all times. If your child needs help, please park and walk. Also, to help expedite the process, please have your child put his/her backpack on once outside the car.
  5. Drivers MAY NOT pull out of the car line before the exit at the end and MAY NOT do U-turns after exiting (or even to get into the line.)

I urge you to please, please follow these rules, as the safety of our children is everyone’s top priority. If we all follow the rules, the line will work incredibly smooth and efficient and there will be no need to rush.

Many thanks for reading this, for following the rules, for your patience with those new to the process, and for gently reminding your friends of the guidelines,

Sincerely,
Sheila Cheney
