Volunteer Positions for 2016/2017

images-6It takes a lot of helping hands to make every event happen at Franklin School. Please consider volunteering for one or more of the following PTO Committees. Fall Events – Need Volunteers Now! 

   Back to School Pops – On the first Friday once school begins, we welcome all Franklin kids back to school with popsicles after school. 2-3 volunteers needed to help purchase and distribute popsicles as well as clean up.

   Family Fun Night – Plan a super fun night for Franklin families to kick off the year on a good note! Event takes place in early fall each year; past activities have included a DJ and dancing with pizza and drinks. 2-3 Coordinators needed. 

   PTO Membership Chair – We need (1) parent to manage the collection of PTO annual contributions. These contributions are key to making our programing happen. 

Other Opportunities:

   Franklin Fair – Franklin Fair is our biggest fundraiser of the year and is held every spring (March or April) with activities, games, prizes, food and entertainment. There are 4 main committees that all work together as one big team: General Event Management, Silent Auction, Children’s Raffle, and Games. We need 2 to 3 coordinators for each, so grab some friends and a committee! 

   Fifth Grade Liaisons – Help oversee special activities unique to the graduating 5th grade class such as: Moving Up Ceremony/Slide Show, Blacktop Party, Yearbook, etc….We need 2-3 coordinators to oversee all activities and then separate chairs for each event. 

   Teacher Appreciation Week- We need volunteers to help plan and coordinate activities for teacher appreciation week in late spring.

   Cafeteria Volunteers– Through the PTO, parents have the opportunity to assist the Cafeteria Aides in monitoring students during lunch from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm daily. This is great way for parents to see what really happens at lunch time! Volunteer commitment is limited to once every 2-3 months. Contact Michelle Wallach mwallach1@gmail.com if you are interested.

   Library (FLIC) Volunteers– Mrs. Stochaj may need FLIC volunteers. Contact Jenny Birch at jennybirch@verizon.net if you are interested.

   Franklin Book Fair– we will need plenty of volunteers for this big Franklin fundraising event, where a bookstore is created in our library, and kids can shop for the books. We will need parents to help the kids select appropriate books and pay for them. Sign ups for book fair volunteer duty will be sent via email (Sign up Genius) a couple of weeks prior to the Book Fair days (Nov. 1st & 2nd). 

   Nutrition and Garden Planning Committee- This group currently reviews the school’s food offerings and will be looking to create a learning garden for our school. Patty Avelino leads this, however, she needs help! If you are interested please contact pattyavelino@hotmail.com

   Speak Up Summit Liaison-  We need a parent to attend “Speak Up Summit” meetings once a month http://speakupsummit.org and report back any relevant news to Franklin parents at PTO meetings or through Franklin’s weekly news via email.
