Book Care

Books are used by everyone in our school. It is expected that children take good care of the books they borrow from the library. Things to keep in mind include reading books with clean and dry hands, turning pages slowly, and always using bookmarks. If a book is returned damaged it will need to be replaced.

Book Borrowing

Each week children are allowed to take out three items from the library. Exceptions are made when children are working on special projects. Books are to be brought book every week for return and/ or renewal. Please help your child find a special place in your home to keep our books safe. It is your child’s responsibility to return or renew the books every week! If a child has misplaced his/her library book and is in the process of looking for it, please do not pay for the book right away until you have received a notice with instructions for payment. Please do write us a note but continue to look for the missing book, and contact the library when you think it is really “lost.”

Selection Policy

The library media center is the place where children can explore and learn about the things that are interesting to them. We try to guide them to the most appropriate choices for their age, interest, and reading levels. Sometimes this can be a challenging task! If you find that your child has selected a book that he or she does not like, or that you feel is inappropriate, please send it back the following day so that another book can be selected. An occasional “oops” in the selection process is to be expected, and is part of the problem solving and critical thinking process.
