We Need Your Help! Volunteer Positions Still Available for Next Year

341-1

HOLIDAY PLANT SALE: FALL

This fundraiser allows parents to pre-order holiday plants, such as poinsettias, paper whites, evergreen roping, wreaths, etc.  Plants are distributed in early December to coincide with Christmas and Hanukkah.  Volunteers coordinate the parent purchases and arrange for distribution.

SCRIP PROGRAM: YEAR ROUND

This fundraiser allows parents to purchase scrip ‘shopping’ cards for a wide range of local shops including grocery, food, sporting and many more.

Franklin School receives a percentage of the cost of the card and it doesn’t cost the purchaser more than the face value cost of the card.

The volunteer position requires writing up a flyer for submission to the Franklin Flyer and Franklin website.  The volunteer will process Scrip card orders and distribute them to the purchasers.

CHESS CLUB: YEAR ROUND

This club is designed to provide students of all skill levels from Grades 3 to 5 with the opportunity to learn and play chess and have fun. The program is offered in the Fall and Spring and culminates in a tournament between all five Summit elementary schools.  A parent coordinator leads and supervises the program.

FIELD DAY: SPRING

Field Day is held in the late spring during the school day (usually after the annual School Picnic). The children participate in various outdoor team games. Volunteers work with the school gym teachers to plan the day, help supervise games and serve refreshments.

THE LOST & FOUND: YEAR ROUND

The Lost & Found bin is in the school entrance hall (with overflow in the basement storage area).  Volunteers are needed to assist with the organization and display of lost items on a quarterly basis, and communicate the need to claim them so that they can find their way back home.  Unclaimed items are donated to a local charity.

CAFETERIA VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: YEAR ROUND

Through the PTO, parents have the opportunity to assist the Cafeteria Aides in monitoring students during lunch from 11.39 a.m. to 12.39 p.m daily.  This is a great way for parents to see what really happens at lunch time!  Generally, the volunteer commitment is limited to once every 2-3 months, though the schedule can be flexed to individual needs and desires.  The Coordinator compiles and distributes the volunteer schedule.
