Wonder what your child is learning in FLIC? Grade 1 is learning to use nonfiction books to do plant research. We also planted some lettuce and are starting a moveable garden. Grade 2 is researching insects both in books and using online encyclopedias. Grade 3 is learning how to use a dictionary. Rotarian Gregory Drummond donated dictionaries to all the third graders. Grade 4 is exploring the Dewey Decimal System. Grade 5 is working on a project to demonstrate all their research skills.
At a bake sale on Tuesday, May 20th, Franklin School raised an incredible $2,914, which we donated to Cookies For Kids’ Cancer, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research. (https://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org/ 100% of the proceeds we earned will go to provide annual research grants to five leading pediatric cancer centers, including St. Jude’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Texas Children’s Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. A big thanks to the Student Council, for helping to run the bake sale, all of the kids and parents who baked treats to sell, and all of the kids who helped to eat the treats! You all contributed to our success. A special thanks goes out to Stacey Sacks for organizing this wonderful fundraising event.
